SciFER Guidelines for Education Research Grants, 2007
Preamble: The Dean of Science has made available a total of $15,000 to fund (on a competitive basis) a number of projects in science education research.
A committee comprising the Dean (or nominee), the Director of the Institute for Teaching and Learning (or nominee) and two members of SciFER will be responsible for reviewing all applications and awarding funds. Listed below are the guidelines to be followed in applying for a SciFER grant.
Eligibility for SciFER Funds
- Projects should be directed towards research into teaching or learning in a science context
- Applications are encouraged for inter-disciplinary projects (that is, the project team has members from different school within the Faculty of Science) but projects confined to one school will also be considered
Applications must show evidence of a well thought out research plan.
Funding will not normally be available forReporting: It is expected that
- travel
- equipment which would normally be expected to be available in schools
- projects whose team leader is also team leader of a previously funded SciFER project which has not yet been completed
Format of Application
- a final written report, including details of dissemination of findings, will be made available to SciFER and to the Dean. The preliminary report is to be submitted by December 2008, with a final report to be submitted by July 2009.
- a seminar or workshop about the project findings will be presented to the SciFER group
- Not more than two A4 pages
- The following headings should be addressed in writing the application:
- Project title
- Project team leader - must be a member of the devolved Faculty of Science
- Project team
- Description of project including aims, rationale, research plan and method
- Budget with justification
- Timeline of project (note final report date above)
- Plans for dissemination of results of research
