Planet Earth and Its Journey

Tales from the Kangaroo's Crypt 4 Billion Years of Extraordinary Australia
This locally produced CD-ROM covers life in Australia through geological time - visit fossil sites, see reconstructions of the organisms and their environments.

Two copies of this CD-ROM were sent to all secondary schools in NSW.

The Making of Australia Part 1

This highly interactive CD-ROM was produced by the Geological Society of Australia. It looks at the geological history of Australia by studying three geologically significant areas, the Pilbara (WA), Flinders Ranges (SA) and the Blue Mountains (NSW), while at the same time investigating each as a local environment.

The Local Environment

Ann Fibian
Ann Fibian explores the relationship between the history of the Murray-Darling Basin and current environmental problems, an demonstrates some of the ways in which these problems can be solved. Six different locations in the Murray-Darling Basin are visited and each visit involves an exploration of its history, an investigation of a particular environmental problem and a problem solving simulation/modelling exercise. Problems encountered include soil erosion, salinity, blue-green algae, flooding, loss of native fish and deforestation. While the activities are available on-line from
http://www.nma.gov.au/education/ann/, the CD-ROM contains additional background information.

Two copies of this CD-ROM were sent to all secondary schools in NSW.

Mission: Australia
This CD-ROM consists of a series of 8 interactive simulation games, each focusing on a different Australian environment facing challenges: coast, arid range land, city, river, farm, wetland, estuary and mountains. The user's is presented with scenarios for each location and their actions determine the consequences short and long term; both economically and environmentally. The software is also available on-line from http://www.mission.gm.com.au/

Ingenious!
Ingenious! is an interactive adventure which investigates five real-life Australian science mysteries. Although designed for 8 - 14 year olds, several of the mysteries relate to environmental issues including endangered species (the Mala), environmental pollution and habitat destruction due to bush fires.

Two copies of this CD-ROM were sent to all secondary schools in NSW.
