The Big Ideas of Physics Covered by the Course
This page contains links to pages which deal with the physical principles and ideas you will encounter in the course.
Communication and waves
Communication is the transmission of information from one place to another. It requires the transmission of energy, often by waves.
See more about sound
Sound is a mechanical wave requires a material medium to travel. It can carry energy and information. Click the jet to see more.
Find out more about light waves
Light is an electromagnetic wave that travels without any medium. It can carry energy and information. Click to the left to find out more.
More about the EM spectrum
Visible light is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Press the prism to the left to see the rest.
Reflection
Light, sound and all waves obey the law of reflection.
Refraction
Waves are refracted when they pass from one medium to another that has a different speed of propogation.
Inverse square law
The intensity of electromagnetic waves from a point source decreases according to an inverse square law.
Modulation
Modulation allows information to be carried by electromagnetic waves.
